Turkey Tail (Trametes versicolor)
Turkey tail is a widespread bracket fungus found on dead and decaying hardwoods across temperate forests. It is one of the most common wood-decomposing fungi and is well known for its ecological importance and long history of medicinal use in multiple cultures.

Ecological Role
Turkey tail is a primary decomposer of hardwood lignin. By breaking down complex wood structures, it releases nutrients back into the soil and supports downstream microbial and invertebrate communities. Its activity accelerates forest floor turnover and nutrient cycling.
